The summer of 2012 in London was one of my favourite times in the city. The London 2012 Olympics created a wonderful festival feel around the capital and all that people talked about were the Games. But while the glory days of the London Olympics might be over, I’m still keen to follow Team GB (and Ireland of course, seeing as that’s my home team!) this summer.
If you’re not heading to Rio, I’ve rounded up where to watch Rio Olympics 2016 in some of the best spots around London on a big screen and get a front row view of the action…Get your country flag ready!
Beach East, Queen Elizabeth Park
Four years ago, there was no where in the world I rather be than in the Queen Elizabeth Park! This year the park has been transformed into a Copacabana Beach themed resort, complete with a lovely white beach, fairground rides and most importantly, big screens to watch all the live action from Rio.
East London knows how to do pop ups, but long standing favourite, Boxpark is going all out for Rio 2016! After you’re done browsing independent boutiques, food stalls and cafes, grab a deck chair and watch the sports on the big screens.
Canary Wharf Summer Screens
Working in Canary Wharf? Want to catch some sport on your lunch break? You’re in luck! Head to Canary Wharf’s Summer Screens with your sandwich and stay up to date with the latest medal wins!
Paddington Central, Paddington
Another one for the weekday fix of Olympic Sport! Paddington Central this month, will have the big screen showing all the Rio action from 9am-9pm, Monday-Friday. Plus there’ll be plenty of activities to get you in the sporting mood from floating yoga to basketball duels!
We’ll be keeping it local this summer as Pop Brixton was made with this summer’s sporting events in mind. After being a huge success for the Euros and Wimbledon action, it’s doing the same for Rio! Grab a craft beer, some great street food and get your cheering game on… There’ll be some fitness classes and table tennis duels happening too!
